What do I rock with Bordeaux-colored sneakers?

Dear AdviceonFashion.com: I have a pair of bordeaux sneakers and I have nothing to match with them. I want to know what other colors I can wear with them that will not be completely outrageous.

Signed,

What goes with a fine Bordeaux?

Dear Fine Bordeaux,

Bordeaux sneakers! They sound great!

Bordeaux can be matched with Black, Dark denim (washed-out denim won't look right), Black & White ensembles, Charcoal Grey. I wouldn't go much beyond that in terms of color but the shapes that you put with it can be more imaginative.

So, here's a few specific suggestions. Dark jeans (dark blue or black) with a dark top and cool jacket. You could put a hoodie under the jacket. You could possibly do a jean skirt, also. You want to match heavier fabrics with the shoes, at least on the bottoms. Lots of layering would be cool. I can imagine a dark wool cap.

No matter what, your shoes will probably be commented on more than anything else, so don't wear any prints with it. Keep the rest of our outfit in solids or simple color-blocking like a single stripe on a jacket. Let your cool shoes be the center of attention.

Is it "too much" to wear black with khaki?

I have a fashion question, I have a cute khaki cord skirt that falls a little below the knee. I tried on a pair of black tights and black heels and it looked cool with it but not sure if the tights stood out too much with the khaki. Also, if it is fine to wear that what color top do I match it with? Black? I don't want to look to crazy! I am a size 6 and tall so not sure if I could pull it off. Thanks

What's not whacky with Khaki

Hi, What's not whacky with Khaki,

I think black would look fine with the khaki - it will be a lot darker than the khaki but black pretty much goes with anything. A black top with it would also be fine - such as a black turtleneck or black long sleeve t-shirt. that can look very slimming and clean looking. You can also pair it with a cool long scarf. You can do a stripe scarf or printed scarf with a little bit of the khaki color in it, and possibly black or grey, and it will look very pulled together.

I'm sending you a link of a khaki with black ensemble. Although I don't particularly like the sandals with the outfit, you can see that black can work. http://www.flickr.com/photos/impulseseattle/2429299677/

Khaki is an interesting color - it's basically tan - which is a washed-out brown. So when looking for other colors that will go with it, think of other washed-out colors. Of course, any kind of brown will go well with it. Chocolate brown is a nice one. Also, greys, greens, military greens, pale greens, soft pink (not hot pinks), mellow reds, lilacs, soft purples, deep purples, various oranges, sometimes yellows. Blue may not be the best.

In the summer, whites and off-whites look excellent with khaki.

Khaki is actually a great basic. The only thing you have to watch for, which you already understand is not to go too intense with the colors you match it with. Also, keep your shoes and bags in the black or brown family.
